Aurora Borealis - a great day/night 22-23 january 2012!

Το τελευταίο 24ωρο φαίνεται πως ήταν ένα από τα πολύ θεαματικά στον βορρά του βόρειου ημισφαιρίου! Ευχόμαστε στους βόρειους φίλους μας να είναι έτσι όλη η χρονιά και να μας γεμίζουν υπέροχες φωτογραφίες από τα φώτα του βορρά (βόρειο σέλας)! Τους ευχαριστούμε πολύ για τις υπέροχες αναρτήσεις στο facebook group μας!

The last 24 hours seem to be of the most spectacular in the north of the northern hemisphere! We wish our northern friends clear and colourful skies throughout the year to fill us with great pics of the northern lights! Thanks so much for the spectacular posts on our facebook group!

AURORA DISPLAYS IN GREECE! - Βόρειο Σέλας στην Ελλάδα!

Πέτυχα λίγο καιρό πριν κάποια άρθρα στον ελληνικό τύπο με τίτλο: Το 2012 έρχεται το βόρειο Σέλας στην Ελλάδα!  Απίθανη ανοησία για εντυπωσιασμό!Εδώ δεν είσαι ποτέ σίγουρος αν θα το πετύχεις και στο βορρά... Η αλήθεια είναι ότι τα επόμενα δύο χρόνια ο Ήλιος θα φτάσει στο maximum της δραστηριότητας του και είναι πιθανές μεγάλες (M & X class) εκλάμψεις που μπορεί να δημιουργήσουν ακραία γεωμαγνητικά φαινόμενα! Σε τέτοιες περιπτώσεις μπορεί με εξαιρετικές και σπάνιες συνθήκες να γίνει ορατό το βόρειο σέλας και σε γεωγραφικά πλάτη και μήκη σαν της Ελλάδας! (όπου και πάλι περισσότερα βλέπει ο φωτογραφικός φακός παρά το μάτι)! Δύο περιπτώσεις είναι οι παρακάτω, μια στην Αθήνα και μια στην Αλεξανδρούπολη! Τις περιγράφω στα αγγλικά και επισυνάπτω το κείμενο του Γιώργο Ταρσούδη που είχε την τύχη να το πετύχει και να το φωτογραφήσει στην Αλεξανδρούπολη!!

The northern lights is an extremely rare thing to see in southern Europe and countries like Greece! Two displays we remember are:

The first one triggered by a M28 solar flare on 30 Oct 2003! The two Pluvia Sanguinea photos are from Athens!!! They were taken by  Mr Antonis Agiomamitis http://www.perseus.gr/
