Aurora and the photographer!

Two beautiful pics of the northern lights but each one has something more...! Our facebook group friend Dave Brosh did a great job!!! He said:

1st. "The Composer" Fort Smith photographer, Karl Johnston (and frequent poster to this group), under a sky that is impossible to describe without doing it injustice. Outside Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada.
2nd."Forces of Nature" This was definitely a first for me. While shooting the aurora borealis last night I was treated - at the same time - to a lightening storm way off in the distance. Check out the cloud in the bottom left as it's lit up by a massive bolt.

Euphoria! Great aurora over Yellowknife!

Another great shooting from our friend  Karl Johnston!
 he said:

"Euphoria"
Ingraham Trail, Yellowknife, North Slave Region

Yellowknife welcomes us with a burst of light tonight. Lightning and rain cascades across the night, while the lakes around us are lit up every now and again by a burst of white flash. Jets and ribbons of aurora borealis streak across the clouds and draw the storm to a close. The air is warm and crackling, with a slight buzz from far off passing traffic from the city. The night is clear and quiet

Euphoria seeps in...

Touring the Taiga! Another great Aurora pic!

Another great shot of the northern lights, from our facebook page's friend Karl Johnston!
He says about this photo:

"Touring The Taiga"

I remember walking one night with a couple of friends for at least a couple of hours. Eventually we reached a clearing. I need to get back to that clearing because it was quite the vista and my shots didn't work out. This one did. I looked up for a whole 20 seconds and the northern lights ripped upon the night sky, cascading a tremendously fast burst of green light that faded out again in less than 30 seconds.

First Aurora after Summer!

AURORA BOREALIS vs CIVILIZATION!

Our facebook group's friend Karl Johnston  has send many creative pictures playing with the northern lights! This one is called "Civilization Vs Nature II"
He said:
"Experimenting with this one again.Taken on the boardwalk by the lookout, in Fort Smith. Boardwalk in between the and the river and aurora dancing the left with the bright moon and stars lighting up the night. See I below on tumblr and flickr.
Tried to create a contrast between nature and civilization, but it didn't quite work out. Geometric distortion was pretty heavy, I tried correcting it with the warp tool. Got the horizon as straight as I could without destroying everything, enjoy. There are 10 shots in this panorama.I really like this one but I'll have to test it out to see if it's print worthy.
"

AURORA over ICELAND!

A great shot that our facebook group's friend Runólfur Hauksson send us! The Northern Lights over
Jökulsárlón (lit. "Glacier Lagoon") the largest glacier lagoon or lake in Iceland. He said:
"I took this one at Jökulsárlón 11 marz 2011 at 21:03:35pm."

Geographic South Pole - Southern Lights

Two pictures from the bottom of the Earth! Geographic South Pole and Aurora Australis (Southern Lights)
 July 21, 2011.

J. Dana Hrubes,the photographer, said on Spaceweather.com:

We've had some very colorful aurora Australis lately here at the geographic South Pole; www.polarwinter.com ; J. Dana Hrubes; Winterover, South Pole Telescope; Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station; Antarctica
..

Aurora Australis in Antarctica!

The Southern lights - Aurora Australis as seen from the South Pole station, Antarctica on Jul. 14, 2011
Robert Schwarz,  Amundsen-Scott wrote about the photos on Spaceweather.com:

I didn't expect anything big happening, especially with the moon pretty full, but then there was one of the best auroras I ever seen, a light conveyor belt of rays and spirals, so fast moving that even this 2.5sec exposure is washed out. Absolutely amazing. The picture shows the SPUD microwave
 telescope on the left.

Lapland, Northern Sweden Aurora photos!

Two great, perfect green photos from the Northern Lights - Aurora Borealis in Northern Sweden!
Our friend, photographer Mikkelsen Bjarki says:
It was in March month. Time 21.25. 2011, and it was a very cold night, minus 31 degrees, but so lovely, above Porjus in Lapland, Northern Sweden. My cam was nearly total frozen :-) Bjarki.
